Testimonials

  • "I see a lot of candidates come and go, and it’s rare that I see someone I can put my full support and my full heart behind. Thida is engaged every single day. I have seen the amount of study she does, the outreach she undertakes, and the care she brings to this work. In difficult and confusing times, we need clear, proactive voices, and Thida brings that thoughtfulness and commitment to her service. I am proud to be her friend and proud to be her supporter."

  • "Over the years, Thida has continued to prove to me that she is the right person for the job. She regularly shows that she prioritizes students above all else. She cares about all students, whether they need additional support, more challenging courses, or both. Thida was not only an exceptionally smart student, but also a student who needed extra support. She knows how that feels, and she wants to make sure all students get what they need to succeed. For every issue the MVLA Board faces, Thida goes above and beyond in doing her homework. She listens to staff recommendations, talks with stakeholders, listens to public comment, and uses her strong critical-thinking skills to make sure each decision is in the best interest of the district and, most importantly, its students."

  • "I have seen Thida’s positive impact on the Board, supporting high-quality education for every student. I have been so impressed with her ability to really listen to all stakeholders—parents, students, administrators, teachers, and her Board colleagues—and to find solutions that best serve all students. She presents her position on issues before the Board with rationales that rely on evidence and are always consistent with her values of respect for everyone, good governance, and finding solutions that best benefit all students. Thida is smart, wise, and deeply committed to serving all students. I am especially impressed with how she has conducted herself in her role as Board President this year. She has guided the Board through difficult decisions while making sure that different perspectives are heard and understood."

  • "Mountain View High School’s Latino Parent Outreach (LPO) endorses Thida Cornes. We were impressed with Mrs. Cornes. She reached out to us to hear our concerns as parents, talk to us about her background and priorities, and asked for our endorsement. One in four students in the district is Latino. Sixty percent of Alta Vista students are Latino. The MVLA Adult School serves the larger Latino community. Thida Cornes will make sure every student has the support to thrive."

  • View video of Sophie Baez, MVHS Graduate, First Generation Student

Latino Parent Outreach (LPO) wanted to share this video filmed and produced by two MVHS graduates. The students were asked to film Sophie's journey as an English learner at MVHS because of Thida Cornes’ priority to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment. This video is an affirmation that when every student is seen and supported, they become the best version of themselves.
