TRUSTEE AREAS | MVLA HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT

About Trustee Areas

Starting in November 2026, MVLA will elect Board members by trustee area instead of at large. You'll vote for one Trustee who lives in your area, though every Trustee still represents and serves all students across the district

What Are the Trustee Areas?

Each of the five trustee areas is drawn so it includes the boundaries of Los Altos High and Mountain View High.

Which Current Trustees Live in Each Area?

2026 ELECTION

Area 1 — vacant, no current trustee lives here
Area 2 — Dr. Esme Ortiz
Area 3 — Thida Cornes and Catherine Vonnegut

2028 ELECTION

Area 5 — Alex Levich

Where is Trustee Area 3?

Area 3 spans these neighborhood associations, from roughly north to south — not sure if that's you? look up your address here.

Why Did MVLA Decide to Divide Into Trustee Areas?

To protect resources for our students, MVLA moved forward with redistricting after receiving a letter threatening a lawsuit under the California Voting Rights Act, alleging racially polarized voting in MVLA elections.

Legal counsel for MVLA advised that similar elected bodies had spent up to $3 million unsuccessfully defending such lawsuits, while redistricting would cost under $50,000.
